For every matter there is an appointed time, even a time for every pursuit under the heavens

Ecclesiastes 3.1

Life, as we live it, is the result of a series of choices and their consequential outcomes. As such, existence regularly presents itself in some of the most challenging  circumstances. And though what happens to and with us in life has its direct affects, it is how we respond, or react to the matter at hand which plays a far more significant determining factor on the end result which we invite into our life. The purpose of these challenges, of which we should become more aware, is to mold and shape us into the individual that we were created and born to be. Unfortunately, more of us than not are overwhelmed by the circumstances to which we become the victim, and the destiny that we were intended to experience often suffers a self-sabotaged outcome. Rarely, however, there are exceptions to the thwarting of destiny as the individual who has both the vision and the fortitude to persevere and endure the suffering ends up experiencing the blessings and rewards of destiny made manifest.

It is true that everything in life is a process. Much like the metamorphosis of a caterpillar into a butterfly, we too are to undergo transformation, not only physically, but also mentally, emotionally and spiritually. This process can be a daunting one, indeed; one that requires complete sacrifice, submission and surrender – a selfless journey of becoming that requires a death and cessation of former thoughts, words and deeds. If embarked upon, it should be expected that this sojourn will be brutal trek into the unknown which regularly causes one to question everything about life and oneself to the point of entering into oblivion in order to be reshaped into the form and fashion that the Creator has originally intended. But it should also be anticipated that at the end of this excursion, there will be a reward yielding a treasure beyond our wildest imagination.

As relates to this process of transformation, we can relate to the butterfly, who, as a caterpillar, must first digests itself in order to dissolve its tissues which then allows it to form the cocoon, or chrysalis, where the process of transformation takes place. It is in this light that our lives must also undertake some sort of dissolution, internally and externally, in order to manifest our ultimate reality and intended purpose to which we have been called to experience. This part of the process of our transformation is where the fires of refinement take place; stripping us down to our barest and most pure elements where we are vulnerably exposed to ourselves for the purpose of reshaping who we have become into who are to be. It is here at this stage when we must purge ourselves of the unrefined and unnecessary lifestyle patterns, material attachments and illusory ideas that have hindered us in our development to full maturity. This is where we experience a complete separation from spiritual, mental, emotional and physical obstructions and impurities that we have acquired in the rigmarole of everyday, mundane living. What we discover in this process, however, is that life is not intended to be a monotonous, meaningless, joyless, routine of daily standards that yield the same results day in and day out. We find, rather, that life is supposed to be a thriving series of events that causes us to grow and become better, centered and more at peace with ourselves and our decisions with each passing day. Like the butterfly, we are supposed to spread our wings and fly into the heights of life with full vigor and vibrancy given the destiny and life with which our Creator has blessed us.

Yet to experience this blessing called life, we must trust in the process that we all will one day awaken to find ourselves painfully experiencing. When presented with this path, we must not divert from the direction upon which life has summoned us to embark. It should be expected that the process will not be an easy one, by any means, but to arrive at one’s intended point of development in life, it is a most essential and necessary expedition. The decision to engage the process is one that requires solitude and reflection, pain and suffering, darkness and doubt; for it is a challenging period of time in which everything that was once a source of comfort gets stripped from you and you find yourself left with only the bare essentials of existence so that you are able to focus on what is most precious to you; your breath and your health. Nothing else in between truly matters. For we are all given one life to live and few are they who actually enter the depths life where its fullness dwells.

For it is in its depths of life where the million dollar questions are asked which lead to the one hundred million dollar answers; who am I? why am I here? what is my purpose? how will I go about fulfilling it? where am I supposed to be? Each of these questions lead us closer to our inner core, and it is at our inner core where we will find our truest self; the one who was crafted and shaped into the image and likeness of our Creator, endowed with higher cognitive abilities, the capacity to be selfless and love, along with the power to change the world. However, before we are able to change the world, before we have the capacity to selflessly love and the power to tap into our higher consciousness, we must first trust in the process of involution and offer ourselves as a living sacrifice to our Creator and Maker, much like the caterpillar, so that we too will be able to spread our wings and fly into the destiny that we have been given to make manifest on earth while we yet have life.
