In the Spirit of Ida B. Wells, James Cone and every Melanated Journalist who told the truth when the state lied.
The rope.
The tree.
The Melanated body swaying in the Southern heat.
America has seen this before…and America has lied about it before too.
In 2026, a chilling pattern has re-emerged with ominous familiarity. Melanated men and women across the American South have turned up dead, hanging from trees, bridges, rafters, and local authorities have moved with remarkable speed to close the cases as suicides. The communities left behind grieve, question, and rage, while official reports gather dust in county filing cabinets.
The confirmed and widely reported cases from 2026 for which investigations remain open or contested include:
Cornelius Fredericks: Found hanging from a tree in a rural area outside Montgomery, Alabama, in February 2026. Authorities ruled the death a suicide within 72 hours. Family members stated he had no history of depression and had spoken with relatives the evening before his death.
Darius Malone: Found hanging in a wooded area near Jackson, Mississippi, in March 2026. The coroner ruled suicide. Community members noted his hands bore ligature marks inconsistent with self-suspension.
Keontae Williams: Found hanging from a bridge overpass outside Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in April 2026. Police closed the investigation within one week. His family hired an independent forensic pathologist whose findings contradicted the official cause of death.
Tamara Reeves: Found hanging in a public park in Shreveport, Louisiana, in May 2026. A 34-year-old mother of three, she was ruled a suicide despite no note, no prior history, and witness accounts placing her in good spirits hours before her death.
Marcus Ellington: Found hanging from a tree on private property near Selma, Alabama, in June 2026. Authorities closed the case as suicide within 96 hours. The property belonged to a white landowner with whom Ellington had a documented labor dispute.
Reginald Tate: Found hanging in a barn outside Oxford, Mississippi, in July 2026. Ruled a suicide. Family retained legal counsel after the coroner refused to release the full autopsy report.
As we already know, every name carries a seed and every seed carries a word. The six names the coroners filed away as suicides, the six names the system moved quickly to forget, each hold a meaning that predates the rope, the tree, and the hatred of the nations. When the meanings of these names align in sequence, they stop being individual identities and become a collective prophetic declaration.
Read each name.
Receive each meaning.
Then read what the names say together.
Cornelius: Latin/Roman origin. Meaning: “Horn,” in scripture the horn announces the kingdom, signals the presence of royal power, and calls the people to attention.
Fredericks: Germanic origin. Meaning: “Peaceful ruler,” the one who governs with righteous order and tranquility.
Darius: Persian origin. Meaning: “He who holds firm the good” – the kingly maintainer, the wealthy protector, the one who upholds what is right.
Malone: Gaelic origin, from Máel Eoin, meaning “Servant of Yah’s favor,” the one whose life is consecrated to the favor of the Most High.
Keontae: Rooted in the ancient Cian. Meaning: “The ancient one,” the enduring carrier of old wisdom, the one whose roots run deeper than his enemies can dig.
Williams: Germanic origin, from Wilhelm. Meaning: “Resolute protector,” the determined guardian who holds his ground regardless of what rises against him.
Tamara: Hebrew origin. Meaning: “Palm tree,” the righteous one who flourishes under pressure. “The righteous flourish like the palm tree” (Psalm 92:12). Upright. Enduring. Unbending.
Reeves: Old English origin. Meaning: “Steward,” the faithful administrator who manages what belongs to a greater authority, accountable to the throne above every earthly throne.
Marcus: Latin origin. Meaning: “Warrior” – the consecrated fighter, the one set apart for battle, the one whose hands were made for conflict the covenant people must win.
Ellington: Old English origin. Meaning: “Settlement of the noble ones,” the gathered community of a people set apart, the holy habitation of those chosen before the foundation of the world.
Reginald: Latin/Germanic origin. Meaning: “Counsel of the king,” the royal voice, the one who carries the mind of the throne and speaks it into the earth.
Tate: Old English/Norse origin. Meaning: “The distinguished” or “the great one,” the one marked by honor, set above the ordinary, elevated by divine designation.
Lay the meanings together of the given name and surname as one unit and let the sequence speak:
Cornelius Fredericks: The horn of the peaceful ruler
Darius Malone: The kingly maintainer of good, servant of Yah’s favor
Keontae Williams: The ancient one with a resolute will to protect
Tamara Reeves: The upright palm tree faithfully stewards what belongs to the Most High
Marcus Ellington: The warrior rises from the settlement of the noble people
Reginald Tate: The king’s counsel distinguishes and elevates the great ones
Combined into a single prophetic declaration:
The horn sounds, a peaceful kingdom announces itself.
A kingly people, maintained in goodness, serve the favor of Yah.
Ancient ones rise with a resolute and unbreakable will to protect.
The righteous stand upright like palm trees, faithfully administering what belongs to the Most High.
Warriors emerge from the noble settlement, a people set apart from the foundation.
The King’s counsel rises to distinguish and elevate the great ones.”
The sentence the names carry:
A royal, ancient, upright people, favored by Yah, guarded by warriors, elevated by the King’s own counsel, sounds the horn to announce that peace, distinction, and covenant honor belong to the noble ones who remain faithful stewards of what the Most High placed in their hands.
The system hung six names from trees and bridges.
The system sealed six files and called six murders personal choices.
The system believed it silenced six voices.
The names disagree.
Every name the enemy moved to erase carried a prophecy inside it.
Cornelius announced the kingdom.
Darius maintained the good and served Yah’s favor.
Keontae carried the ancient wisdom forward.
Tamara stood upright and faithful like the righteous palm.
Marcus rose as the consecrated warrior.
Reginald spoke the royal counsel of the King over the distinguished ones.
The rope reached the body.
The rope never reached the name.
Say their names.
Listen to the names speak back.
Unfortunately, however, there’s additional names and cases that remain under community investigation as of this writing.
The full count exceeds what mainstream media has amplified.
It is because of this that our efforts matter and our unity is everything.
With that, allow me to continue to uplift and reveal.
Between 1877 and 1950, white mobs lynched more than 4,000 Melanated people across the American South, according to the Equal Justice Initiative’s landmark report, Lynching in America. Sheriffs looked away, coroners signed off on fabricated causes of death, newspapers sometimes printed the lynching as entertainment, complete with photographs sold as postcards.
The rope was never just a rope, it was always a message; a referendum on Melanated life. It announced, in the language of terror, that Melanated bodies existed at the discretion of white power and that power would snatch them back whenever it felt threatened.
James Cone, in his classic work, The Cross and the Lynching Tree, draws the prophetic and historical line between the lynching of Messiah Yeshua in Yerushalem and the lynching of Melanated people on Southern trees. Cone writes that the lynching tree and the cross interpret each other, that the Son of Elohim who hung on Golgotha hung again in the Melanated South, that Melanated suffering carries a redemptive and revelatory weight the white church has historically refused to acknowledge. The cross, Cone argues, became sanitized, ornamental, distant from its terror, while the lynching tree remained raw, immediate, and real. White Christianity consecrated the cross and desecrated the tree, never reckoning with the fact that both held innocent bodies condemned by corrupt power.
The prophet Yeshayah foresaw this kind of suffering and this kind of silence:
Justice is turned back, and righteousness stands far away; for truth has stumbled in the public squares, and uprightness cannot enter.
Isaiah 59:14
When a county coroner rules a lynching a suicide in 72 hours and seals the autopsy, truth has stumbled in the public square; when no federal investigation follows, righteousness stands far away.
Lynching operates on two psychological levels simultaneously; the psychology of the perpetrator and the psychology of the community targeted.
For the perpetrator, lynching functions as a ritual of dominance. It performs white supremacist power publicly, spectacularly, and with impunity. The spectacle communicates to the broader Melanated community that no space, not the woods, the roadside, the park, nowhere offers safety. The body left hanging functions as a warning broadcast across an entire population.
Dr. Frances Cress Welsing, in The Isis Papers: The Keys to the Colors, excavates the psychic architecture beneath this terror. She argues that white supremacy emerges from a deep genetic anxiety; the awareness that melanin, the biological marker of color, represents a dominant genetic trait that white genetic expression cannot overpower through reproduction alone. This anxiety, she contends, drives white supremacist systems toward the destruction, control, and symbolic castration of Melanated men and women specifically because Melanated life represents a biological and cultural force that white supremacy experiences as an existential threat.
Through this lens, the lynching tree becomes a symptom of pathological psychosis; a system driven to destroy what it fears it cannot contain. The speed with which authorities rule these deaths suicides speaks to the same psychosis operating through institutional channels. The coroner, the sheriff, the prosecutor, these figures function as the modern apparatus of the same terror that once required a mob and a rope. The rope remains. The mob now wears badges and carries official seals in every local, state and federal principality. Shaul of Tarsus names this principality clearly:
For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.
Ephesians 6:12
The darkness Shaul names has always operated through systems for millennia; through law, policy, the pen of a coroner who closes a case before the family receives notification.
Welsing further argues that the destruction of Melanated men carries specific symbolic weight within this psychosis; that the Melanated male body represents the concentrated locus of white supremacist fear. When we see young Melanated men turning up hanging from trees and bridges at rates that defy statistical coincidence, Welsing’s framework demands that we call this what it is: organized, psychosis-driven elimination operating through deniable mechanisms.Everybody Hates Israel: The Prophetic Dimension of Our Persecution
In my newest book, The Prophetic Priority of Covenant for Liberation, there is a chapter I called “Everybody Hates Israel” that reads less like a religious commentary and more like a forensic report on the present moment. With the chapter, I establishe clearly that the hatred directed at the true descendants of the covenant people of YaH carries a prophetic signature; that the nations’ hostility towards Israel didn’t end with ancient scripture but continues as a living, breathing, operational force in the earth. The hatred the world directs at Melanated people, the chapter argues, traces its roots to a spiritual and covenantal reality that secular analysis alone cannot fully decode.
This framework reframes the lynching tree entirely. The recent hanging deaths in Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and across the South do not represent random acts of racial hatred; they represent the ongoing fulfillment of a prophetic pattern; a pattern written in advance by the same covenant relationship that promised both blessing for obedience and consequence for departure. But know that the nations have always hated Israel; they hated us in Egypt, in Babylon, in Greece and Rome, on the auction blocks of Charleston and New Orleans, and they hate us now, hanging from trees in 2026, while coroners sign papers calling the murder a personal choice.
Yahoshua HaMashiach also clearly named this hatred with prophetic precision at Matthew 24.9,
And you will be hated by all nations for my name’s sake”
Read those words slowly and in their full weight; hated by ALL nations, For HIS NAME’S SAKE.
This is covenant language.
This is the language of a people whose identity, whose very existence, carries a name and a calling that the world system finds intolerable. The hatred directed at melanated people across the globe, from the Middle Passage to the Mississippi lynching tree, carries this prophetic fingerprint. It exceeds what racism alone explains, it exceeds what sociology alone can contain. The nations rage because something in the earth recognizes a people marked by covenant, even when that people has forgotten who they are.
And therein lies the deeper wound. And it just so happens that Deuteronomy 28 stands as the most precise historical document ever written concerning the condition of the covenant people in departure. Moshe laid out the blessings of covenant-keeping with breathtaking specificity and then laid out the consequences of covenant-breaking with equal precision.
You shall become an astonishment, a proverb, and a byword among all nations where HaShem will drive you All these curses shall befall you; they shall pursue you and overtake you, until you are wiped out, because you did not heed HaShem your Elohim and keep the commandments and laws enjoined upon you. They shall serve as signs and proofs against you and your offspring for all time.
Deuteronomy 28:37, 45-46
The Middle Passage.
The plantation.
The convict leasing system.
The lynching era.
The mass incarceration pipeline.
The suspicious deaths of 2026.
Each generation inherits the consequence of a covenant broken not by individuals alone, but broken collectively, structurally, spiritually. The Deuteronomy 28 curse doesn’t operate as divine cruelty, instead it operates as divine warning made manifest; a warning the ancestors heard and sometimes heeded, and a warning this generation must reckon with honestly if we intends to walk in something different and civil.
The prophet Yeremayah spoke to a people in the grip of consequence:
Your own wickedness will correct you, and your apostasy will reprove you. Know then and see that it is evil and bitter for you to forsake HaShem your Elohim.
Yeremayah 2:19
The bitterness Yeremayah names lives in every family that sits across from a county coroner who hands them a suicide ruling with dead eyes; the bitterness lives in every community that knows the truth and watches the system seal it away. The path back runs through covenant, through collective return, through the keeping of what was given, through the recognition that the hatred of the nations represents not simply an enemy’s choice but a prophetic marker pointing back to who we are and what we carry.
Cone reminds us that Melanated Christians found the courage to survive slavery, Jim Crow, and the lynching era precisely because they understood the cross as a symbol of solidarity with their suffering; that the Son of Elohim who suffered unjust execution at the hands of empire could not be the Son of God of empire. That’s why our ancestors sang Strange Fruit not only as protest but as prophecy; Billie Holiday sang what the church was afraid to preach.
The psalmist asks the question the families of Cornelius, Darius, Keontae, Tamara, Marcus, and Reginald now ask:
How long, O HaShem? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me?
Psalm 13:1
But this is not the cry of a people who have lost faith, this is the cry of a people who carry faith like fire in their bones; a fire that won’t let them accept the coroner’s report, the sealed autopsy, or the 72-hour closure.
In fact, Yahoshua himself wept over Yerushalem, and over a people who had wandered from covenant and now faced the fury of the nations as consequence. His weeping was not resignation, it was the posture of a Shepherd who saw clearly what the sheep had forgotten; that their safety lived inside the covenant, and their exposure lived outside of it. He says at Matthew 23.37,
O Yerushalem, Yerushalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often would I have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing!”
The gathering he offered required a return, the return required acknowledgment, the acknowledgment required truth, the truth required response, and too often, there was silence. The pattern today demands our collective response. The time for waiting on official investigations that never fully open has passed.
Communities across the South must establish independent forensic review boards that work alongside families before bodies are released and before county coroners make unilateral rulings. Melanated attorneys, forensic pathologists, and investigators must build rapid-response networks that deploy within hours of a suspicious death with the same urgency the community brought to the streets in 2020, directed now toward forensic and legal infrastructure.
The Melanated press, the historically Melanated newspapers, the digital outlets, the independent journalists who have always told our stories when nobody else would, must place these cases on the front page and keep them there. Outlets rooted in Melanated liberation journalism like The Final Call, Black Agenda Report, Blavity, and The Grio carry the responsibility to document every case with the depth and consistency that mainstream media deliberately withholds. Organizations rooted in Pan-African self-determination and revolutionary consciousness: the Malcolm X Grassroots Movement, the African People’s Socialist Party, the All-African People’s Revolutionary Party, the New Afrikan People’s Organization, and the Coalition of Melanated Trade Unionists must place their full organizational weight behind every contested case, demanding independent autopsies, community-controlled investigations, and complete public transparency. The Equal Justice Initiative and the People’s Law Office must receive sustained pressure and dedicated resources to pursue federal civil rights investigations in every case where a Melanated body has been found hanging and a coroner reached for a suicide ruling before the family received a phone call.
Families must document everything: the last phone call, the last text, the last conversation in good spirits. Documentation creates the record that coroners erase. The community must surround each family with legal, financial, and emotional support, because isolation is the tool that keeps these cases buried.
The call to covenant return carries equal urgency alongside the call to legal and community action. The Prophetic Priority of Covenant for Liberation makes absolutely clear that the hatred directed at this people will persist for as long as the covenantal vacuum persists. The nations’ hostility finds its fuel in our disconnection from the covenant identity that makes us who we are. Collective return to Torah, to righteous community, to the keeping of what Yah commanded – this represents the deepest form of resistance available to a covenant people under siege. The rope cannot cut what the covenant has already sealed.
And spiritually, the Melanated community must return to the prophetic consciousness Cone excavated from the wreckage of American history: the understanding that our suffering is seen, that our dead are held, and that the same power that raised the crucified Messiah from borrowed ground will raise truth from every sealed county file in the American South.
Ezekiel stood in the valley of dry bones and heard the Most High ask:
Can these dry bones live?
Ezekiel 37:3
The answer was not given by the empire, the answer came through the breath of a people who refused to believe the official report. The breath that filled those bones came with covenant attached
I will put my Spirit within you, and you shall live, and I will place you in your own land
Ezekiel 37:14
The land, the life, and the Spirit all arrive together, and they arrive through covenant restored.
Cornelius.
Darius.
Keontae.
Tamara.
Marcus.
Reginald.
Say their names.
Return to covenant.
Build the network.
Seal the record.
Fund the movement.
Protect the next one.
The strange fruit must stop falling.
This generation carries both the legal responsibility and the covenantal mandate to cut the tree down for good, and to remember who planted it, who it targets, and Who holds the axe.
Selah…
