Come Out of Her, My People!

Picture the morning: millions of people, men, women, children, elders, rising before dawn in Goshen. Sandal on feet, staffs in hand, bread baked without leaven because there was no time to wait for the system to provide. Pharaoh had built the most sophisticated empire on earth. He commanded armies, controlled food distribution, managed housing, issued identification, and set the terms of labor. And for 230 years, the children of Yisra’el had been folded into that system so completely that many could not imagine life outside of it

Then the word came: Exit!

Not petition Pharaoh.
Not vote.
Not register a complaint with the taskmasters.

The word was departure; total, irreversible, covenant-driven departure. Our ancestors didn’t leave because Egypt collapsed. They left while Egypt still stood; powerful, proud, and fully operational. They left because the Most High revealed what Egypt truly was: a house of bondage dressed as a house of provision. And He called Its people to remember who they were before the empire told them who they needed to be.

That morning is not ancient history. that morning is now.

The Prophet Yochanan, while in exile on the isle of Patmos, saw a vision that transcended his own century. He described a great city, a global system of economic, political, and cultural domination, drunk on the blood of the righteous and seductive in its offerings of comfort and commerce. And in the middle of that vision, a voice thundered from heaven:

Come out of her, my people, lest you be partakers of her sins, and that you receive not of her plagues.
Revelation 18:4

The Hebrew prophets heard the same command centuries earlier. Yeshayahu declared:

Depart, depart, go out from there, touch no unclean thing; go out from the midst of her, purify yourselves, you who bear the vessels of HaShem.
Yeshayahu 52:11

Yirmeyahu thundered:

Flee out of the midst of Babylon, and deliver every man his soul; be not cut off in her iniquity.
Yirmeyahu 51:6

And again in the same delivery:

My people, go out of the midst of her, and deliver every man his soul from the fierce anger of HaShem.
Yirmeyahu 51:45

The command repeats across centuries, across prophets, across testaments, because the Most High understood that Its people would face a recurring temptation: to build their lives inside systems designed to use them, to seek protection from the very hand that oppresses them, to mistake proximity to power for safety. The call to come out is not a suggestion. It carries the weight of covenant law.

Reading this article, it’s essential to know that what I’m speaking about isn’t metaphorical. The legislative architecture now surrounding the Melanated community in the United States represents the most coordinated withdrawal of civic protection since the dismantling of Reconstruction. Each law, each executive order, each court ruling functions as another stone in the wall. Examined individually, each can be minimized. Examined together, they form a system.

1. The One Big Beautiful Bill Act – Medicaid Destruction

Signed into law in 2025, this legislation delivers the largest single cut to Medicaid in the program’s 60-year history. Melanated Americans represent over 20% of all Medicaid recipients, a proportion far exceeding their share of the general population, because decades of wage suppression, employment discrimination, and wealth extraction have produced predictable health outcomes. The cuts eliminate coverage for millions, slash preventive care, restrict maternity services, and cap federal contributions to states. For Melanated mothers already dying at three to four times the rate of white mothers during childbirth, this legislation functions as a death sentence administered by policy. Coverage changes begin this November.

2. Voting Rights – Louisiana v. Callais and the SAVE Act

The Supreme Court’s ruling in Louisiana v. Callais effectively guts the Voting Rights Act’s remaining protections against racial gerrymandering. The National Urban League projects 191 Melanated-held state legislative seats now stand vulnerable to elimination through redistricting. Simultaneously, the SAVE Act proposes citizenship documentation requirements for voter registration, a mechanism that mirrors the poll taxes and literacy tests of the Jim Crow era in function if not in name. The Urban League warns that 21 million Americans face potential disenfranchisement. The overwhelming majority of those Americans are Melanated, poor, elderly, or young.

3. Affirmative Action – The Supreme Court’s 2023 Ruling

The Supreme Court’s 2023 ruling in Students for Fair Admissions v. Harvard and UNC dismantled race-conscious admissions at every college and university in the country. The downstream effect compounds daily. Melanated enrollment at flagship universities declines. Corporate diversity programs retreat under legal threat from the same legal arguments. Federal contractors face executive orders eliminating DEI requirements. The architecture of institutional access, imperfect as it always was, systematically dismantles itself under government pressure.

4. Immigration Enforcement and the Deportation Machine

Liberia, Ghana, and other African nations now operate under diplomatic pressure to accept deportees; including third-country nationals as part of broader U.S. immigration enforcement deals. Over 300,000 Haitian nationals lost Temporary Protected Status on February 3, 2026. ICE enforcement operations sweep through Melanated immigrant communities with documentation requirements that ensnare U.S.-born Melanated citizens through mistaken identity at documented rates. The deportation machine does not distinguish sharply between diasporic Africans, Caribbean nationals, and American-born descendants of enslaved people when it moves through a neighborhood.

5. The Dismantling of Federal Civil Rights Infrastructure

The Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights faces deep staffing cuts and a narrowed scope of enforcement. The EEOC operates at reduced capacity. Federal diversity, equity, and inclusion offices across 19 agencies receive closure orders. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, which recovered billions in discriminatory lending cases affecting Melanated borrowers, faces functional elimination. The legal infrastructure that Melanated litigators spent a century building as a partial corrective to systemic racism now systematically dismantles itself in real time.

6. Criminal Justice and Mass Incarceration Expansion

The administration’s reinstatement of mandatory minimum sentencing guidelines reverses the bipartisan progress of the First Step Act. Federal prosecutors receive directives to pursue maximum charges. Police departments across the country receive renewed 1033 Program military equipment transfers. Melanated Americans, who already face incarceration at five times the rate of white Americans according to Bureau of Justice Statistics data, face the full force of a system that now removes the modest brakes reform advocates spent decades installing.

7. AI and Economic Displacement

The administration declares an “AI golden age” and accelerates the expansion of AI data centers and automation infrastructure, with no corresponding investment in the communities most vulnerable to displacement. Melanated workers concentrate in the service, logistics, transportation, and administrative sectors that automation targets first. The wealth generated by AI flows upward to shareholders and executives while the workers rendered redundant receive no structural support.

But this isn’t the first time in America that Melanated people have experienced such an onslaught. Our community carries a long memory of walls closing in, and an equally long memory of turning inward to build what the state refused to provide.

When post-Reconstruction violence burned Melanated Wall Street to the ground in Tulsa in 1921, the survivors rebuilt. When the Great Migration carried millions of Melanated families north into urban centers that denied them bank loans, they built mutual aid societies, burial funds, and rotating credit associations, what West Africans call susu and what our grandmothers called the club, financing homes and businesses outside the banking system entirely. When the federal government refused to enforce the law in Birmingham, Montgomery, and Selma, the Melanated church became the courthouse, the command center, and the treasury of the movement.

Marcus Mosiah Garvey built the largest mass movement in Melanated history by declaring that the Melanated community could create its own shipping lines, its own schools, its own press, its own international diplomacy, and he proved it before the state destroyed him for trying. Elijah Muhammad, whatever his contradictions, built hospitals, schools, farms, and a food distribution network that fed communities no federal program reached. The Black Panther Party launched free breakfast programs, medical clinics, legal defense funds, and liberation schools across 48 chapters before J. Edgar Hoover declared them the greatest domestic threat to the United States government.

The pattern holds across every generation; when the state withdraws its fraudulent promise of protection, the Melanated community activates something deeper, not dependence, but covenant, not petition, but power.

The Torah always knew this. The Most High never designed Its people to survive as a permanent underclass in someone else’s empire. He designed them to govern themselves, feed themselves, heal themselves, judge themselves, and worship Him on their own land according to Its own law. The deviation from that design, the addiction to Pharaoh’s bread, Babylon’s economy, Rome’s citizenship, and America’s welfare, produced the vulnerability we now face.

Devarim (Deuteronomy) 28 describes with surgical precision what happens to a covenant people who abandon their Torah obligations and place their trust in foreign systems: they become the borrower and not the lender, the tail and not the head, the servant of nations that once served them. The chapter does not read like ancient prophecy when you set it beside a newspaper. It reads like a diagnostic report.

The alternative Yeshayahu and Yirmeyahu describe is not utopian fantasy. It is covenant economics operating at community scale.

The Jubilee economic model embedded in Vayikra (Leviticus) 25 cancels debt every seven years and redistributes land every fifty. That model produces communities with no permanent underclass, no generational debt bondage, no family permanently priced out of land ownership. The dietary laws of Torah produce communities with lower chronic disease burdens, lower rates of hypertension, diabetes, and kidney failure, the exact conditions Medicaid cuts will now leave unmanaged among the uninsured.

The Levitical model of community tithing, ten percent of increase flowing into a community treasury that funds widows, orphans, strangers, and local Levites, constitutes a mutual aid infrastructure that predates and outperforms every government safety net program in human history.

The Sabbath, observed rigorously, breaks the 24/7 labor extraction model that capitalism requires. One day in seven, no buying, no selling, no servitude, a built-in disruption of economic dependence that Pharaoh’s Egypt and Babylon’s marketplace both required their subjects to abandon.

Torah-based community is not a retreat from the world. It is the construction of a parallel world, self-governing, self-sustaining, and anchored in divine covenant rather than government contract.

The Melanated community has always possessed the internal resources to outlast empire. The question in every generation is whether enough people wake up fast enough to activate those resources before the walls fully close.

Harriet Tubman did not petition the Fugitive Slave Act for amendment. She moved. Frederick Douglass did not wait for Congress to educate Melanated children. He built schools. Ida B. Wells did not wait for federal anti-lynching legislation. She published, organized, and traveled internationally to apply pressure that no domestic petition could generate.

The common thread across every era of Melanated self-determination is the decision to stop waiting for the system to redeem itself and to build the alternative with whatever was at hand. Sandals and unleavened bread. A printing press. A community hall. A mutual aid fund. A school in the back of a church.

The tools available now dwarf what any previous generation possessed. Melanaged Americans hold over 1.7 trillion dollars in annual spending power. Melanated-owned credit unions exist in every major metropolitan area. Melanated farmers organizations work across the South, East, West and Midwest to reclaim agricultural land. HBCU networks span 107 institutions. Melanated legal organizations, medical societies, business councils, and media networks operate nationally.

The infrastructure for departure exists. The only missing element is the decision to use it for covenant community rather than individual consumption.

This hour demands definitive clarity. The legislative assault itemized above does not represent a temporary setback correctable by the next election cycle. It represents a structural revelation, the system showing its true architecture without the cosmetic concealment of previous decades. This is not the time to lobby harder. This is the time to build differently.

Build covenant economics. Move deposits to Melanated-owned credit unions and community development financial institutions. Redirect consumer spending toward Melanated-owned businesses as a spiritual discipline, not merely a marketing preference. Establish community land trusts to remove property from the speculative market and hold it in perpetuity for the community.

Build food sovereignty. Establish community gardens, cooperative farms, and buying clubs rooted in Torah dietary principles. The community that feeds itself cannot be starved into compliance.

Build educational independence. Homeschool networks, Torah-based community schools, and HBCU partnerships constitute an educational infrastructure that no Department of Education budget cut can reach. Teach the children who they are before the system teaches them who to become.

Build health sovereignty. Invest in community health workers, midwives, herbalists operating within their legal scope, and preventive wellness programs anchored in Torah nutrition principles. Build the healthcare infrastructure now that Medicaid cuts will eliminate.

Build legal and political solidarity. Support Melanated legal defense organizations with time, money, and testimony. Register every eligible voter and challenge every disenfranchisement mechanism in court while simultaneously building structures that require no government permission to sustain.

Return to covenant assembly. Gather on Shabbat. Study Torah together. Practice the Jubilee principles in miniature – forgiving debts within the community, redistributing resources toward the most vulnerable, honoring the Sabbath as an act of economic resistance and spiritual renewal.

The last word belongs to Yeshayahu. In chapter 58, the prophet delivers one of the most breathtaking passages in all of TaNaK, a covenant promise addressed directly to a people who have been scattered, oppressed, and told by every surrounding empire that their best days belonged to a dead past.

And they that shall be of thee shall build the old waste places; thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations; and thou shalt be called, the repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in.
Yeshayahu 58:12

And the promise continues:

Then shalt thou delight thyself in YHWH; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of YHWH hath spoken it.
Yeshayahu 58:14

The heritage of Yacob, not the charity of Pharaoh, not the welfare of Babylon, not the provisional protection of an empire that has repeatedly demonstrated its willingness to withdraw that protection the moment it becomes inconvenient. The heritage of Jacob, land, covenant, self-governance, and the manifest presence of the Most High dwelling among a people who chose It over the empire.

The walls closing around the Melanated community in America are real, the legislation is real, the disenfranchisement is real, the economic extraction is real, and the call to come out is equally real, ringing across Revelation 18, across Yirmeyahu 51, across Yeshayahu 52, across the memory of every ancestor who refused to let Pharaoh have the final word.

Come out of her.
Build the alternative.
Receive the heritage.

The mouth of HaShem has spoken it.
